Meharry Medical College is located in Nashville, Tennessee, and is roughly equidistant from Memphis and Atlanta. The Meharry campus is in the northern quadrant of the city, adjacent to Fisk University, a few blocks from Tennessee State University, and 4 miles from Vanderbilt University and Medical School. That is generally not possible. The tremendous volume of applications for the limited number of positions available makes it impossible to accept every eligible applicant. Final selection is based on a composite, which includes GPA score, test results, supporting credentials, and evidence of your support of the mission of the college. The whole application must be reviewed in detail. There is also no predicting what next year's applicant pool will be like in terms of strengths and size. Interviews are required for the Medical and Dental Schools, and for the Ph.D. program of the Graduate School. Each school conducts their interviews differently and on varying days. These interviews are conducted by invitation only. All applicants are interviewed by faculty and staff who are members of the Committee on Admissions. In addition to interviews, the interview day includes an orientation, the possibility of attending class, a campus tour and lunch with current students.

Meharry does not have a ranked waiting list. If a position in the class becomes available, all files will be reviewed. As you receive updated records and scores, it is important to forward them to the Admissions Office so that all current information is considered in your application.
Do you accept transfers?
We do accept applications for transfer. Openings are extremely limited at best and in some years, nonexistent. We do not know how many openings, if any, that we will have until late June of the year of entry. Candidates for transfer must submit to the Director of Admissions & Recruitment a letter explaining why they want to transfer to Meharry, a statement of withdrawal in good standing and a recommendation from the dean or other responsible officer of the institution previously attended.
Does Meharry offer scholarships?
A limited number of scholarship awards are given to first year students based on need and merit. Many of the awards are renewable annually for each of the three succeeding years of medical and dental school if academic performance is satisfactory. Meharry is a private medical school and accepts out-of-state and foreign students for Dental and Graduate Schools. Medical School only considers students who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or Canadian citizens.
Can I apply to the Master of Health Science Program?
Currently, no, Meharry's Master of Health Science Program for the Medical and Dental Schools is by invitation only. In the coming academic years, the program may move to having an open application process. To be considered, you must have applied through the application services of the respective schools (AMCAS or AADSAS).

Applicants should send all letters of recommendation directly to AMCAS, which will forward the letters to our office electronically. AMCAS will accept letters from users of VirtualEvals, Interfolio, and via the U.S. Postal System. The address to which the letters should be mailed will appear on the AMCAS Letter Request Form. Applicants who attend, or who have recently graduated from, an undergraduate institution or a post baccalaureate premedical program that offers a Health Processions Advisor or Advisory Committee should submit a letter from this person or committee; this letter should be sent to AMCAS as described above. If no such institutional letter is available, the applicant should explain this on the Meharry Medical College supplemental application and substitute a minimum of three individual letters, including two from Science professors. These letters should be sent to AMCAS, as described above.
